I write this message with the sincerest humility and gratitude. I feel very privileged and honored to be able to serve as an NR after having served as a district chair. I am immensely grateful to all those colleagues who have voted for me, made it possible for me to be elected, and supported me in my job. I cannot thank them enough. The first thought that came to my mind on looking at this year’s theme, Heartbeat of Humanity, was our national poet, Allama Iqbal’s famous verse which emphasizes that the purpose of humankind on this earth is to feel the pain of its fellow human beings and try its level best to alleviate that pain and suffering. Life is otherwise empty, purposeless, and futile. I will be the first to admit that there have been times when we as a human race have fallen well short of what is expected of us and have committed atrocities against each other but on the whole, this inbuilt desire to help our fellow human beings is what has sustained humanity, this is what has seen us through some challenging times in history, be it at national or international catastrophes. This theme chimes exactly with the ethos, values, and the very purpose of Inner Wheel’s inception, existence, and ever-increasing inspiration. This desire to serve unfortunate fellow human beings gets stronger and stronger with every heartbeat of every single member, with every passing day of this organization. The torch of humanity has been passed down the generations and that is why we can celebrate the centenary year of this wonderful organization with some degree of satisfaction while being very much aware that it is a never-ending job.
